Tortuguero

Attracting wildlife enthusiasts from around the globe, the small town of Tortuguero is named for the famed turtles that arrive on its shores to nest.

Tortuguero’s dense jungle maze of winding canals is evocative of the wild Amazon. From mountain biking and rappelling to white water rafting and horseback riding Sarapiquí serves up heart pounding thrills that pair perfectly with incredible biodiversity and lush natural surroundings while bird lovers flock to the area to catch a glimpse of countless resident and migratory species as well as the Great Green Macaw, one of the last remaining places this critically endangered species can be seen.

Birdwatching

For decades, Sarapiqui and Tortuguero have been birding hotspots – captivating beginner and expert alike. Keel-billed Toucans, Great Green Macaws, Wood Thrushes, Grey-necked Wood Rails, Sun bitterns and Violet Crowned Woodnymphs are just a few of the birds that inhabit the rainforest and reserves in the region. We work with a number of local ecolodges to take care of the details while you focus on the birds!

Gandoca-Manzanillo

Just south of the town of Manzanillo and stretching all the way down to the border of Panama is Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge. This postcard-worthy stretch of coast is a paradise of beaches, coves, islands, and an offshore coral reef backed by thick rainforest. Sea turtles (nesting between March and July), dolphins, manatees, and crocodiles can all be found at the reserve. With such rich underwater biodiversity, the Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge is considered by many to be the best snorkeling and diving spot on the Caribbean Coast.
